Maryland Medical Waste Requirements and Regulations

Medical waste disposal regulations are managed by the Maryland Department of Environment and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Complete details on state requirements can be found here. The information presented herein is applicable for Small Quantity Generators (shippers) of less than 50 pounds of Regulated Medical Waste per month. Generators (shippers) in excess of that amount have additional requirements for compliance. Please refer to the link for further guidance.
Generators of Special Medical Waste in Maryland should obtain an identification Number from the Secretary, Department of Environment. Forms for obtaining the Special Medical Waste Generator Identification Number are available through the state website, which we've also added to our website.
Storage must maintain the integrity of packaging, keep in non-putrescent state, clearly mark all storage areas, protect from animals, and the outside storage areas must be locked.
