Containers must be closed securely and clearly labeled with the words “Potentially Infectious Biomedical Waste”, “Medical Waste”, or “Infectious Waste”.
Waste must be stored in a secure location to protect from theft, vandalism, unintentional human and animal exposure, rain, and wind. Containers and plastic bags must be waterproof and rip-resistant.
Medical waste stored outside requires another layer of containment. The outer containers must be made of strong, watertight, not easily corroded, rodent, and insect proof material.
