Stericycle Observes Juneteenth

Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth), marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people were freed. It is considered the longest-running African American holiday, and, in 2021, Juneteenth became an official federal holiday. Each year, people throughout the United States take time to reflect and rejoice.

On this day, Stericycle takes a moment to highlight and celebrate the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout history. We also take this as an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to a more diverse and inclusive workplace for our team members. Embracing diversity and inclusion is a priority and core value for our organization. Honoring the achievements and efforts of African Americans at Stericycle is just one way we do that.

This year, Juneteenth celebrations at Stericycle include a virtual event organized by our employee resource group (ERG), Blacks Unify for Inclusion, Leadership, and Diversity (BUILD). BUILD is a Stericycle community of Black team members and allies, which aims to create a positive and inclusive environment for Black employees by promoting training, leadership, and mentorship while upholding Stericycle’s core values.

Stericycle’s efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace were recently recognized by Newsweek, which named us a 2024 Greatest Workplace for Diversity in the large-size company category. Stericycle received the highest rating of five-stars. The list features companies "recognized by their employees for genuinely respecting and valuing individuals from different walks of life” and the role that diversity plays in driving creativity, innovation, and organizational success. Stericycle remains dedicated to increasing representation within the company.
