On November 10, 2020, the Business Intelligence Group (BIG) announced the winners of the 2020 BIG Awards for Business, recognizing top-performing companies and executives across a range of industries. Stericycle is honored to be named one of the winners in the enterprise category, awarded for our efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
What Are the BIG Awards?
The BIG Awards highlight companies that provide superior performance. Selected by a panel of experienced business leaders from around the world, award winners lead their industries in innovation and excellence. BIG selectively measures performance across multiple business domains and then rewards those companies whose achievements stand above those of their peers.
“We are so proud to reward Stericycle for their outstanding 2020 achievements,” said Maria Jimenez, chief nomination officer of the Business Intelligence Group. “This year’s group of winners are clearly leading by example in the global business community.”
Our Commitment to Protecting What Matters Sets Us Apart
With over 30 years of experience, Stericycle has handled waste and protected team members, healthcare workers, patients and communities through past outbreaks and natural disasters as well as the spread of infectious diseases and other states of emergency like Ebola, H1N1 and Hurricane Katrina. Our expansive operational footprint and ability to scale capacity position us well to handle severe crises, including COVID-19.
Since March, we have pursued multiple strategies to serve healthcare organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, to help the healthcare industry navigate challenges brought on by COVID-19, Stericycle worked closely with federal and state regulatory agencies to determine the best course of action for properly managing COVID-19 waste.
Additionally, as infection rates spiked, we quickly adjusted services to address the needs of the hardest-hit areas, rapidly mobilizing to partner with 200 temporary quarantine, testing, and treatment facilities in nearly 40 states. Also, we partnered with pharmacies and laboratories as they rapidly expanded testing services. To date, we have provided waste management services to more than 1,000 COVID-19 testing sites in the United States. Now, we are preparing for increased service needs due to a surge in cases, as well as preparing for the demand associated with antibody testing and vaccine deployment.
“Protecting what matters is at the heart of our core purpose, and we are honored to be recognized as a 2020 Enterprise Company of the Year for the role we have played in creating safer communities by mitigating the spread of COVID-19,” said Cindy Miller, chief executive officer at Stericycle. “Our operational footprint, industry expertise, and ability to scale capacity enables us to serve during times of extreme crises. As the pandemic continues to unfold, we’ll be there to support healthcare workers with the safe transportation, treatment, and disposal of potentially infectious items so they can continue to focus on patient care.”
